Anton Michelsen Royal Copenhagen Sterling Porcelain Cufflinks1950sSculptural

Anton Michelsen Royal Copenhagen Sterling Porcelain Cufflinks1950sSculptural. With the cool design and clean lines that characterize the best mid-century Scandinavian silver, these great vintage Danish cuff links feature porcelain squares divided into 9 sections (like a tic-tac-toe board). Each of the 9 sections is shaped like a pyramid and capped with a silver bead echoing the silver of the frames. The juxtaposition of the smooth porcelain with the bumpy beading is interesting and so textural.

The plaques are in deep chocolate brown (almost looks black) and beige or off-white, set into silver frames which frame them like a painting and set them off so they stand out strikingly as they will on your cuff. Dimensional, they measure about 11/16" square by about 1/4" deep. The cufflinks have elliptical hinged backs on curved bars. The crown with wavy lines is the stamp of the Royal Copenhagen Porcelain Manufactory, long renowned for its porcelains. The Royal Copenhagen Group now owns several important silver companies such as Georg Jensen and Hans Hansen. They are in Excellent vintage condition with just surface dirt, light scratches and tarnish as expected due to age. Upon close inspection, where the silver beads meet the porcelain, there is a tiny ring of transparent glue from when they were made, mentioned only for completeness.

With their interesting design and effective combination of materials, these links are a superb example of the elegant artistry that characterizes the best vintage Scandinavian silver. And the color scheme makes them eminently wearable. They belong equally in collections of twentieth century design, Scandinavian silver and cufflinks. A wonderful pair of signed Danish sterling and porcelain cufflinks and Art to Wear to add to your collection of quality and distinction!
