Nanna Ditzel was born in 1923, and died in June 2005. In the book Danish Jewelry, by Jacob Thage, her jewelry is described as sculptural and harmonious in character, as found in the best jewelry of the 50s, without the pieces losing their utility. Her work can stand as an exponent of the periods Danish jewelry design. According to Janet Drucker, in her book Georg Jensen: A Tradition of Spendid Silver, Nanna Ditzel started her own design firm in 1946.
She won the Lunning Prize in 1956 and a gold medal at the Milan Triennale in 1960. Since 1954, she has been associated with the Georg Jensen Silversmithy. Her work has been exhibited at selected prominent museums in the United States and in Europe. Ditzel, together with another mid-century designer, Torun, are known for their reinvention of modern designs for the Jensen workshop.
