Wiwen Nilsson's clean and considered jewelry has earned him a worldwide reputation as one of most important figures in Swedish design. Influenced by cubism and other twentieth century art movements, he created the first jewelry in Sweden to be composed of geometric shapes with minimalist design.
He was employed briefly by Danish silversmith Georg Jensen and studied extensively abroad before opening his own retail location in New York City. This 18k gold and amethyst ring is a perfect example of his unembellished style. The geometric design is superbly proportioned and has the weight and feel of fine craftsmanship. Handcrafted in the 1950s, the design remains ahead of its time. Stamps: AN (Anders Nilsson), A9 (1951), 18K, Lund city stamp, Wiwen Nilsson (signature).
