This is an extremely RARE purse designed by Henrik Møller of Trondheim, Norway (date of the purse is likely 1900). It is designed from a motif of the dragon style wooden doors of the Hjelstad Church in Norway that burned in the 1700s.
The doors were salvaged, and they depict the legend of Sigurd Favnesbane who slayed a dragon. The name of the church is engraved on the back. The date of 1200 is engraved and represents the year the church was built. These types of purses are worn by hanging the clip on the belt of a skirt or the Norwegian Bunad costume. There is a tear along the bottom of the leather.Scratches, tarnish and wear throughout consistent with age and use but overall displays nicely. Please see all photos as they are part of the description. Measures approximately 13 long including the chain and 6-1/2 at the widest part of the leather.
