ANTON MICHELSEN - CROWN JEWELER. CAN BE WORN WITH OR WITHOUT ROYAL COPENHAGEN CENTERPIECE. This necklace was produced for a brief time in the 1960s, shortly after the crown jeweler A. Michelsen and the Royal Copenhagen Porcelain Manufactory were bought by Georg Jensen. To celebrate this "merger" of historic "royal" workshops, several jewelry designs were produced.
Production of this series was limited, and ended by 1970. Pieces are rarely for sale and are highly collectible. This example is in original condition and has never been worn. Each piece was created and signed by two leading artists - Jens Windfeld Hansen and Bodil Buch. Jens was a trained goldsmith from Michelsen workshop, and Bodil was a well-known ceramisist from Royal Copenhagen. Both were known for their fine craftsmanship. The design offered here is a convertible necklace consisting of a handmade "Copenhagen Blue" porcelain disk pendant on a long, heavy handmade sterling silver chain, with sterling spheres at each end.
The porcelain disk is approximately 2 ½ inches 6 ½ cm. In diameter, and weighs about 20 grams. The reverse side of the disk is marked "Royal Copenhagen" with a crown, "Denmark", three "wavy" lines, and a special monogram combining the initials of Hansen and Buch. This necklace can be worn in a variety of ways to suit different necklines. The chain can be detached from the disk and worn by itself as an impressive sterling necklace. It is almost 33 inches 84 cm. Long and weighs approximately 20 grams. Our goal is to make this beautiful, hand-made piece become your treasure. BE SURE TO VIEW OUR OTHER OFFERINGS.
