BAHNER Sterling Blue Enamel Festoon NECKLACE EUC Guilloche VB Volmer Denmark Vtg. Like something a Princess would wear, in a heavenly shade of luminous light blue guilloche enamel, set in sterling, this festoon necklace by Denmark's Volmer Bahner is in Excellent condition and really stunning. The swags of curving enamel crescents are punctuated by teardrop dangles and all are articulated so it lays beautifully. The necklace, and sets it apart from similar Bahner designs, is the addition of the two dangles that flank the center teardrop, a small detail in design and construction that adds immeasurably to the look of the piece on the neck.
To paraphrase the song about moonlight, what a difference some little dangles can make! The patterns of radiating lines under the enamel add to the texture, depth and movement created by the graceful flowing lines of the curving garland.The lines in the teardrops follow their shape, giving them the appearance of actual puffy dimension. Many Scandinavian artists excelled in enamel work and this necklace, with its very special design, is a terrific example of Bahner's skilled artistry for your collection! This listing is for the necklace only. It is in Excellent vintage condition with nothing more than expected light dirt, surface scratches and tarnish. Beautifully made, the necklace measures about 15" extended by a little over 1/2" wide. The closure is a toggle clasp.
With the dangles, the necklace will look gorgeous encircling your throat. The necklace is signed on the toggle clasp and on the back in two places as well, "VB Sterling Denmark" which is the signature of Volmer Bahner. Page 95, Bahner is known for his enameled silver jewelry manufactured after WWII....Bahner usually marked his jewelry with his initials VB. This mark was first registered in 1962 and active through 1987 so this piece dates from sometime in those 25 years; over 30 - 57 years ago. This necklace is a lovely example of the elegant artistry that characterizes the best vintage Danish silver and belongs equally in collections of twentieth century design, Scandinavian silver, enamel and of course, jewelry. Versatile and easy to wear, it manages to be casual and dressy, feminine and tailored, all at the same time, and will go with everything, night or day, to work or play.
