DAVID-ANDERSEN 3-D Sterling +Blue Enamel Pansy Pin/ BroochNorwayLayered Flower. This lovely enamel on gold-plated sterling silver brooch or pin depicting a pansy flower is by "the Norwegian Georg Jensen" as Christie Romero called the well respected Norwegian silver makers David-Andersen in. The rich hues of blue are expertly shaded from midnight blue/black at the center to a vibrant light shade at the edges of the petals in the foreground. There is a pattern of lines under the enamel, but just at the tips of the petals, a small but important design detail that helps immeasurably in conveying their velvety texture. Please forgive the inadequate photos which, for some reason, do not even represent the true hues of blue; the brooch is.

This layered brooch is extremely dimensional and was carefully constructed of two separate pieces. The petals in the foreground stand out strikingly against the solid shade of deep cobalt blue of the petals behind and the flower head really pops. The way the darker blue. Across the petals in front adds to the sense of exuberant movement and the flower is so animated and lively, it fairly bursts with life. The brooch measures just under 1" in both directions (about 15/16" square) by about 3/16 deep.

It weighs 4.7 grams. It is signed on the back in raised letters "D-A Norway-Sterling 925S ". And the pin stem is marked "Met". The brooch is in Very Good vintage condition with just surface dirt and scratches (visible only under magnification) as well as light tarnish. David-Andersen is known for their artistry in enamel as well as for some of the best Scandinavian mid century modern design.
