Finn Jensen Norway Sterling'Hedwig' Owl Brooch Enamel Gilt

Description: This listing is for a beautiful gilt sterling guilloche enamel owl perched on a branch in pure white enamel over sterling silver made by Finn Jensen. The owl has bright green eyes. The sterling silver under the enamel has been created with a design to show naturalistic detail of the feathers on the owl body. The colored white and green (eyes only) enamel is applied to enhance the silver design underneath. Exposed silver is gilt with gold. Other skilled Scandinavian jewelers created enameled owls, but in my opinion, Finn Jensen's representation is the best. Measurements: Brooch: 1 3/4 inches tall. This owl is not flat but partially 3 dimensional. He is about 1/2 inch thick from front to back.

Markings: Marked on the reverse: Norway; Sterling; 925; S; triangle with point down (for Finn Jensen). The enamel is perfect in every way. No scratches, cracks or loss.

The roll-over safety clasp in original excellent condition. The gold gilt over sterling is a bright yellow gold color though the pictures shows there is some patina/tarnishing on the reverse. A gentle polishing with a cloth might brighten it up. A vintage "Norwegian Wood" folk art wooden box from the region to store your treasure in if you choose is included.
