This vintage Georg Jensen ring features the clean lines and cool design for which the best Scandinavian jewelry and other arts are known. It was designed by Harald Nielsen (1892 - 1977) who was the brother of Georg Jensen's third wife and began as an apprentice with the Jensen silversmithy at an early age, becoming Jensen's closest friend, designer/director of their apprentices and the company's head designer in 1958.

Simply elegant and elegantly simple, with a wealth of design details that belie its simplicity, this ring is dimensional and well-proportioned with flowing lines and sensual curves that have a pleasing symmetry and loads of movement. The surface of the ring is so tactile, it invites touch.

The high-domed smooth oval cab is bezel-set in a thick bezel and rises about 1/4 from the surface of the finger, making for a striking profile. The surround that curves below the bezel, is concave like a saddle, so the bezel is shorter at the narrow ends, a small but important design detail. The stone, bezel and surround have a stepped form, perhaps echoing in a sense that of Nielsen's famous "pyramid" flatware design. The underside is slightly convex to conform to the contour of your finger, providing perfect fit so it lays beautifully on the hand and will make all your gestures more interesting. All the detail in design and construction adds up to a sensational ring that looks terrific on the hand and shows why Jensen silver, despite its often deceptive simplicity, is so effective as jewelry.

The ring is about a size 6.5 and the face measures about 5/8" north to south by about 1/2" by about 1/4 deep. The cabochon stone may be some type found primarily in Scandinavia and in any case is really interesting. It is in a soft, ethereal shade of sea foam green, mottled with mossy-looking tufts of charcoal (reminding me of dendritic agate or quartz) and is most harmonious with its gleaming 18 karat yellow gold setting. Most of the poor washed out photos do not accurately reflect the gorgeous colors; they are much prettier in person.

It is signed on the back of the face "Georg Jensen" in the dotted oval as well as "750 18K" the design number "1046B" and "Denmark". It is in Very Good / Excellent vintage condition with just expected surface dirt, scratches and light tarnish. There are no dents or dings - any shadows / bright spots you may see in the photos are due only to my inadequate photography skills and camera / flash distortion of the curving, reflective surfaces. There are expected imperfections in the natural stone that only add to its charm.

Absolutely no flaws of consequence and this classic and elegant ring looks.
