GEORG JENSEN Sterling CONTINUITY Pendant TORUN 2004 Von Bulow Hube Denmark. Candinavian Silver at its Best! Simply Elegant and Elegantly Simple, this vintage Georg Jensen sterling pendant by their highly sought designer, Vivianna Torun, is versatile, easy to wear and so Sculptural. It has an organic design that is full of motion. Swirls and the flow of water were among the natural shapes that inspired this artist and this pendant is an iconic and beautiful example of her work. Form follows function and the swirls of the pendant provide the bail by which it may be hung. It could even be worn on a bracelet, like a charm. It measures about 1-1/8" by about 1-1/4" by about 1/4 deep and weighs 6 grams. It looks good from any direction. No longer in production, the pendant is signed "925S Denmark" followed by "Georg Jensen" in the dotted oval and "2004 Torun" for the artist known as Torun, Vivianna Torun von Bulow-Hube (1927 - 2004). Torun was born in Sweden and is one of their most important twentieth century silversmiths. She began designing exclusively for Jensen in 1969, is responsible for some of their best known designs and, after Georg Jensen himself, is their second most famous designer.
Her jewelry has been exhibited in museums, including the Louvre and New York's Museum of Modern Art and has won many accolades and prizes. Torun believed jewelry's purpose was to enhance, not overwhelm, the body and should be timeless. In keeping with those objectives, she designed a number of swirling pendants and this one bears the year of her death. It is in Very Good vintage condition with just expected surface dirt, scratches and some tarnish. Please forgive the poor, washed out photos with their shadows; the piece is much nicer in person.
