This a unique David Andersen Norway sterling silver and gold color enamel bangle designed by Willy Winnaess. A highly collectible and wearable item from the 1950's that has lost none of its appeal. It's concave sides are decorated with basse-taille enameling (low relief designs cut into the metal, prior to the fixing of the enamel) showing the eye or drop like pattern. It is in very good vintage condition with no chips or cracks , there are two matching 5 mm vertical silver strips on opposite sides where the enamel does not cover.
It appears to be an intentional part of the design. This bangle is marked with the scale sign, D-A for David-Andersen, 925S, Norway and Sterling and also has the Willy Winnaess mark, a W in a circle. The bangle is not a perfect circle so the smallest inside measurement is 62-65 mm (2-1/2 - 2-5/8"), and the outside rim measures 69 -73 mm (2-11/16 - 2-7/8"). It is 14 mm wide (slightly more than 1/2).
I consider this rare since I have not seen another like it. David-Andersen was founded in 1876, in Oslo, as a maker of gold and silver jewelry and other objects.
At the beginning of the 20th century, the use of enameling was introduced and was so successful that enameled jewelry was almost synonymous with the companys name. Although Winnaess had his own Oslo workshop (from 1941 to 1978), he also designed for David-Andersen.Thank you for your interest and please message me with any questions.
