Scandinavian David Anderson Demi-Parure boxed vintage necklace, bracelet, brooch
Much sought after and gorgeous in PERFECT condition this vintage DAVID ANDERSON Demi-Parure in original fitted box, consisting of a necklace, bracelet and brooch, this was worn once by a 1960's bride and has been boxed and kept in a drawer since then - hence the condition. It is silver gilt and white enamel over a leaf pattern.
Each piece is individually hallmarked. The necklace and bracelet consist of leaves in white enamel with the leaf pattern in the silver beneath the enamel. The leaves are arranged in pairs top to bottom to each other.
The necklace has a hidden squeeze push close clasp, which works very well and is secure and it measures approximately 15 long. The Bracelet also has a squeeze push close hidden clasp, still as good as new and measures 6 3/4" long (the leaves alone) and fits my 7" wrist - I couldn't resist trying it on! There is no damage to any part of the bracelet or necklace.
The enamel is all in perfect condition - it's like new. The beautiful brooch has larger leaves facing away from each other, also with the leaf pattern on the silver beneath the white enamel. The brooch has had more wear than the bracelet and necklace it seems, and the enamel is in perfect condition, but as sometimes happens with brooches the pin at the back is a little bent - sometimes people put them on very tough thick coats and push a little too hard. Although the pin has a little kink in the middle, it still works very well. David Andersen opened his eponymous shop in Christiania (now Oslo) Norway in 1876.
As a designer and retailer specializing in jewelry and silver wares, Andersens business model closely mirrors that of Danish silversmith Georg Jensen, who was twenty-three years his junior. Jensen opened his shop in 1904. Upon Andersens death in 1901, his sons took over company operations and designs. Today, David-Andersen (the companys name since the early 20th century) is practically synonymous with mid-century enameled silver jewelry. While embracing contemporary design aesthetics, David-Andersen silver drew on a long tradition of enamel work, both at the company and in Scandinavia.Todays collectors covet pieces in the Art Nouveau and Dragestil styles that date from the first fifty years of the companys production. The incorporation of virtuosic techniques, such as plique-a-jour enameling, or expensive materials, like semi-precious hardstones, only add to a pieces appeal.
