Vintage Norway J Tostrup Sterling Silver Scales Brooch by Grete Prytz Kittelsen
Vintage mid century modernist sterling silver pin / brooch. Made by well-known Norwegian designer Grete Prytz Kittelsen. The name of this brooch is "Scales". 22 grams & 2.25 diameter. Condition: Very good vintage condition.
Silver shows some wear / tarnish; did not attempt to polish. Grete Kittelsen was born in 1917 in Norway to Ingerid Juel and Jakob Tostrup Prytz, who was a goldsmith, and rector of the Norwegian National Academy of Craft and Art Industry. She attended and graduated from the academy before working for her father in his goldsmithing firm of four generations. She was one of the most well-known Norwegians in the Scandinavian Design movement and has been referred to as the "Queen of Scandinavian Design". She died at age 93 in Oslo on 25 September 2010.
